Welcome to My Classroom

March Newsletter  (PDF)

Hello parents and students!  Welcome to our website!  Please check it often for information about what we are learning, upcoming events, and reminders.

In reading and language arts we are starting our third theme, Incredible Stories.  We are learning concepts such as fantasy and realism, following directions, drawing conclusions, and story structure.  We will also focus on strategies such as evaluating, questioning, predicting/inferring, and monitoring/clarifying.  In math we are finishing up unit 4, multiplication and division number stories.  We will soon move on to unit 5, learning place value in whole numbers and decimals.  Please help your child practice subtraction and multiplication facts.  Our main focus for multiplication is multiplying by 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10.  Our goal will be to try to learn all the facts up to 10.  In social studies we are exploring where people start communities and Native Americans. Our class will go to Mrs. Schneiderman for science starting December 17th.  We will then learn about the physics of sound.  Don't forget that students get a new spelling list every Monday and will be tested on Friday.

Just a few reminders:

Students should bring their Grant folder (red and white) home each night.  Please check and sign their assignment sheet.  Your child should also bring their behavior calendar home every night.  Please sign it at the end of the week.

Don't forget to read at home!  The second quarter AR goal is nine for the quarter (1 per week).  To earn a free pizza coupon for the Pizza Hut Book It program students need to complete four quizzes per month.  Please remember that your child must get a 70% or higher on AR quizzes.

Just a reminder that the bell rings at 8:08 to come in.  After 8:10 your child is considered tardy.

I would like to remind parents and students of the classroom rules.  Our class created these together on the first day of school.  We decided that these five rules are essential for being successful at school!

  1. Listen
  2. Raise your hand - talk when you are called on
  3. Pay attention
  4. Keep hands to yourself
  5. Clean up after yourself
